IAC valves are used to maintain the speed of the engine while at idle. They regulate engine speed by adjusting the amount of air allowed into the intake during idle.
If you have running or idling issues on your EFI machine the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is probably to blame. In that case it's usually the solenoid that goes bad over time and does not open properly causing error codes and erratic running. To check if your solenoid still works properly it should clicks after you turn the machine off. If it does no longer clicks it is probably defective. However even if it clicks it can still be broken.
